According to a report by TOI (Times of India), an audit conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-Delhi) has raised concerns about the safety of buildings along the Dwarka Expressway corridor in India. The audit was commissioned by Godrej Properties and revealed the presence of chloride in the water within some structures, which has a detrimental impact on the concrete used in these buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The IIT-Delhi team noted that similar issues were observed in many other communities within the Dwarka and Dwarka Expressway region, based on their understanding of multiple projects in that area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The IIT panel report stated that the high levels of chloride in the water corrode the embedded steel reinforcement within the buildings, compromising their strength. The report mentioned that the presence of chloride in the concrete could be due to chloride in the water or the aggregate used during construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Specifically, excessive chloride was discovered in two towers at Chintels Paradiso, which had already been declared unsafe by the authorities. In 2022, a partial collapse of Tower D within the Chintels Paradiso residential society resulted in the deaths of two individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the safety concerns, the Gurgaon administration directed Chintels India to evacuate Towers E and F of the project under sections of the Disaster Management Act. Prior to this, a structural audit conducted by a team from IIT-Delhi had already declared these towers as unsafe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
