The highway passes through the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The highway is divided into four sections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Srinagar-Jammu section:<\/strong>\u00a0This section is 290 kilometers (180 mi) long and passes through the Kashmir Valley.<\/li><li><strong>Jammu-Pathankot section:<\/strong>\u00a0This section is 235 kilometers (146 mi) long and passes through the foothills of the Himalayas.<\/li><li><strong>Pathankot-Amritsar section:<\/strong>\u00a0This section is 210 kilometers (130 mi) long and passes through the Punjab plains.<\/li><li><strong>Amritsar-Kanyakumari section:<\/strong>\u00a0This section is 2,000 kilometers (1,243 mi) long and passes through the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest update on NH 44 is that it is being upgraded to a 6-lane highway. The project is being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and is expected to be completed by 2025.
