After the national government\nauthorized the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) project on January 28, 2009,\nconstruction began in June 2009 to build a metro rail link between Koyambedu\nand Chennai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_launch_of_CMRL\"><\/span>The launch of CMRL <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The 4.5-kilometer route between Alandur and Koyambedu\nstations of the Chennai Metro (CMRL) opened to the public on June 29, 2015. The\nChennai Metro also began operations between the Chennai International Airport\nMetro Station and Little Mount on September 21, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_Metro_Fare\"><\/span>What is the Metro Fare?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the is Rs 50 if you want to travel in the Chennai\nMetro. The fare was brought down where earlier the charges were Rs 70. If you\nwant to travel at a distance of just 2KM then the fare is just Rs 10. But there\nwere a lot of public demands saying that the prices have increased, so a new structure\nfor fare price was announced by the government.
