JEWAR: PM Narendra Modi on Thursday afternoon laid the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport, Jewar in Uttar Pradesh. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

This international airport will be India\u2019s largest and the fourth largest in the world. Once completed, it will also be the “first net-zero emissions airport” in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being developed by Zurich International Airport AG at an estimated cost of Rs 29,560 crore, the Noida International Airport, Jewar is spread across 1,330 acres of land with a capacity to hold approx. 1.2 crore passengers annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is expected that the airport will begin its operations by September 2024 and the project will be a great employment booster as it will create more than one lakh job opportunities, according to the government of Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath hailed the airport project as \u201cmonumental\u201d for the NCR and Western UP residents. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also said that the airport will become one of the largest airports in Asia. He also highlighted that the airport will be the logistics gateway of northern India. And with its scale and capacity, it will turn out to be a “gamechanger” for Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase I of the aerodrome will cost more than Rs 10,050 crore and will have a capacity to serve at least 12 million passengers per year. It is created with an intention to share the congestion at the national capital\u2019s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located about 72 km from the existing IGI Airport in New Delhi, the Noida International Airport, Jewar is 40 km from Noida and about 40 km from the multi-modal logistics hub at Dadri. The residents in Noida and Greater Noida can easily access the airport and it is also an alternative for residents in New Delhi and Gurgaon and other cities like Agra, Aligarh, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Mathura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the airport will be linked to the planned Delhi-Varanasi high speed rail, which will shorten the journey between Delhi and the airport to only 21 minutes, said the official release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
