Even\nduring months of November to April, the Spiti and Lahaul Valleys are cut off\nfrom the rest of the world. The Rohtang tunnel is an engineering marvel that connects the Spiti-Lahaul\nValley to Manali while also cutting the transit time to Leh by over 5 hours.\nThe Prime Minister characterized it as a historic day for the country and spoke\nabout fulfilling the vision of previous Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,\nnamed in honour tunnel is dedicated. The PM also stated that the development of\nthe Rohtang tunnel would improve the country&#8217;s border enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Modi was joined by India&#8217;s Defense\nMinister, Rajnath Singh, Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravne, and Chief of\nDefense Staff Gen. Bipin Rawat. The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Jairam\nThakur, was already present at the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PM Modi emphasized the Rohtang tunnel&#8217;s\nworld-class border connection and relevance in the nation&#8217;s infrastructure\ndevelopment in his inaugural speech. He further praised the squad for\npersevering in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Union Cabinet of India resolved to renaming the construction from Rohtang Tunnel to Atal Tunnel during the year 2019.
