Vidyasagar Bridge, also known as the Second Hooghly Bridge, is a suspension bridge that spans the Hooghly or Ganges River. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The bridge represents human contentment throughout the city of Kolkata, India<\/a>. It is considered to be one of India’s longest bridges. Every citizen of the city gleams at the sight of the Second Hooghly Bridge, also known as the Vidyasagar Bridge. It was named after Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a rebel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After India’s independence in August 1947, the cities of Howrah and\nKolkata saw a boost in their economies. The Howrah Bridge became the most\nefficient connector between the two and began to fill up with traffic. As a\nresult, the decision to construct a new bridge over the river was made,\nspecifically the Second Hooghly Bridge or Vidyasagar Bridge.Indira Gandhi laid\nthe foundation stone for the bridge on May 20, 1972, and the construction of\nthe bridge took nearly twenty years. The total cost of construction for the\nbridge was estimated to be around Rs. 3.88 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The longest cable-stayed bridge in India is the Vidyasagar Bridge. With\nan 823-meter length, it is also one of Asia’s longest. It contains around 100\nand twenty-one cables grouped in the shape of a fan and is made up of roughly\n100 and twenty-eight meters of metallic pylons. The bridge is thirty-five meters\nlong, with three lanes in each direction and a 1.2-meter-wide promenade on all\nsides.The cord cables that support the side spans are used to support them.\nIt’s a toll bridge with the capacity to handle over 80,000 vehicles each day.\nSchlaich Bergermann& Partner is a German-based structural engineering and\nconsulting firm. They were in charge of the bridge’s construction. Lightning\narresters, fuel line supplier aid structures, lifts within the pylons, electric-powered\nlines, and phones are just a few of the bridge’s essential components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
