The Tehri dam, located in Tehri in Uttarakhand, India, is a multi-reason rock and earth-fill embankment dam. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Tehri is a small town around 200 km north of Delhi<\/a>. Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India, the second tallest in Asia, and the eighth tallest in the world, with a height of 260.55 meters. It’s a truly multipurpose dam, featuring a reservoir for agriculture, municipal water distribution, and 1,000-megawatt hydroelectric technology, as well as 1,000 megawatts of pumped garage hydroelectricity. The Tehri Hydropower Complex includes the Tehri Dam and the Tehri Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\n1961, a pilot study for the Tehri Dam Project was completed. In 1972, the dam’s\nlayout was completed. A 600 MW potential energy project was permitted based on\nthe analysis. However, development began in 1978 when feasibility studies were\ncompleted but were delayed due to economic, environmental, and social concerns.\nThe former USSR provided technical and economic aid in 1986, but this was\nterminated years later due to political instability in the USSR. As a result,\nthe responsibility was assigned to the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department by\nthe Indian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nTehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) was established in 1988 to oversee\nthe dam’s operation.The Central Government provided 75% of the investment,\nwhile the State Government of Uttar Pradesh provided the other 25%. The State\nGovernment of Uttar Pradesh also sponsored the whole irrigation portion of the\nproject. The assignment was reviewed in 1990, and the dam’s layout was changed\nto its contemporary multifunctional form. The Tehri Dam’s construction was\ncompleted in 2006, and the dam was dedicated to the country.The Tehri Dam,\nwhich stands at a magnificent 260.55 meters, is India’s highest dam and the\nworld’s eighth tallest dam. This rock and earth-fill embankment dam are 575 meters\nlong, with a 20-meter crest and a 1,128-meter bottom width. The reservoir floor\narea of the dam is 52 km2 (20 rectangle miles), with a total capacity of four\nkm3 (3.2 million acre-ft). The dam features gate-controlled spillways with a\nflow capacity of 15,540 cubic meters per second in step with the 2nd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tehri Dam, being a multifunctional dam, provides large amounts of energy as well as drinking and agricultural water to a larger area of Northern India, including the country’s capital city of Delhi. The dam contains Francis pump generators with a capacity of a thousand megawatts of electricity and a thousand megawatts of pumped garage hydroelectricity. The Koteshwar Dam, with a capacity of 400 MW, is part of the Tehri Hydropower Complex. The Tehri dam has a maximum capacity of 2400 MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
