It provides cash help to recipients. Depending on housing scarcity factors from the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC), pucca dwellings with minimal utilities will be built. The IAY was established in 1985, during Rajiv Gandhi&#8217;s tenure as Prime Minister. Close family members and widows of military members killed in action were added to the scheme&#8217;s beneficiary list in 1995-96.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Its advantages are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Houses are built to meet certain needs.<\/li><li>Need for regionally obtained materials in the construction of dwellings with a 30-year lifetime<\/li><li>Housing ideas that are environmentally friendly and sustainable<\/li><li>Encourage panchayats to promote this plan to improve its adoption across India.<\/li><li>This programme assists with housing layouts that require workspaces.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why did the Indira Awas Yojana become the PMAY-G?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As stated by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India in 2014, the Union Government noted that while IAY met rural housing requirements, it had deficiencies. These deficiencies included, among other things, a lack of openness in beneficiary screening, poor dwelling conditions, and recipients&#8217; inability to get financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To remedy these deficiencies and in light of the government&#8217;s &#8216;Housing for All initiative, IAY was renamed Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana &#8211; Gramin (PMAY-G) on April 1, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Beneficiaries of the Indira Awas Yojana<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beneficiary data may now be retrieved on reporting.nic.in by entering the enrolled cellphone number. If your name is on the list, you will see all details on the screen, including your subsidy condition.
