Everything about National Logistics Policy

On Saturday, September 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the National Logistics Policy, a plan to facilitate product movement and expand the Indian economy’s trade sector. The PM recognized the event by announcing that luggage should move quickly like cheetahs on the same day as the reintroduction of cheetahs to India. He also stated that logistics costs presently account for thirteen to fourteen percent of India’s GDP, roughly twice as much as they do in developed nations.

In general, logistics entails centers that are essential to exchange: delivery services for the movement of goods, storage facilities that are especially important for the exchange of perishable goods like food items, fruits, and vegetables, as well as the smooth operation of governmental services that ease exchange, like licensing and customs.

According to research, the logistics cost in India is currently 13% of GDP, Prime Minister Modi said at the introduction of the PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity in October 2021. A situation like that is no longer the case in developed nations. India’s exports are much less competitive due to exorbitant logistics costs.

Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana were the top 3 states in a Ministry of Commerce and Industry assessment last year titled “Logistics Ease Across Different States.” The excellent road and rail infrastructure, the road freight rates, the superb warehousing infrastructure, etc., were the characteristics that had been preserved. The poll suggested that states focus on areas like expanding infrastructure for quarter-specific skilling and reducing clearance and approval procedures related to logistics.

The new logistics coverage includes four capabilities: System Improvement Group (SIG), Ease of Logistics (ELOG), and Unified Logistics Interface Platform (IDS) (SIG). 30 distinct structures from 7 departments are included in the IDS, including statistics from the departments of street distribution, railroads, customs, aviation, and trade. The PM said that a ULIP will “convey all of the virtual offerings related to the transportation sector directly into a single gateway.” Similar to this, a new virtual platform called Ease of Logistics Services (E-Logs) has also been launched enabling business institutions to resolve issues by reaching out to the authorities.

The FASTag for digital toll tax series and faceless assessment for customs are only two examples of earlier programs and schemes the prime minister mentioned that were aimed at improving logistics. The Gati Shakti master plan is the largest of these plans, and the PM noted that “a large number of documents related with special infrastructure projects of national governments had been compiled.” On the PM Gatishakti webpage right now, statistics from the primary and national governments are arriving at about 1500 levels.

The Gati Shakti plan was mentioned in the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech from the previous year on August 15, where he said: “In the coming days, we can release PM Gati Shakti Plan, a 100 lakh crore countrywide infrastructure master plan as a basis for holistic infrastructure and deliver an integrated pathway to our economy.” Ministries now have access to a single platform to display the progress of various infrastructure projects. Later, the PM noted that over the next four to five years, the Center aims to add over 200 airports, helipads, and water aerodromes where planes may land, in addition to almost tripling the current network of natural fuel pipelines, which is now made up of around 19,000 km.
