Bangalore Ties Up with Google for Traffic Management

To reduce commuters’ wait times at traffic signs, Bangalore Traffic Police and Google are working together on a trial project to optimize visitors’ sign arrangements.

According to B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Google used artificial intelligence to study usage patterns from Google maps to support an updated strategy. With the help of employing 20% of the commuter time, 400 hours per day per intersection, and 73,000 hours per year on the pilot intersections, the wait time at pilot alerts will be reduced.

According to him, doing so will reduce traffic, wait times, gasoline use, road rage, and greenhouse gas emissions. One crore cars may benefit if it were to be expanded to additional crossroads throughout the city, he noted. The pilot mission also includes real-time updates on events, road closures, and other information. This will guarantee that commuters receive real-time updates and have access to potential routes via Google Maps.

As part of the goal, Mr. Gowda added that Bangalore Traffic Police had provided Google with a vast amount of updates. He continued, “This alliance is amazing and could help to reduce avenue congestion and improve avenue safety.” The pilot mission also includes the first-ever implementation of speed limitations for commuters on Google Maps.

According to Mr. Gowda, the government and technology companies like Google working together will undoubtedly change society. Bangalore traffic control is a massive undertaking, hence the branch is using generation to improve visitor control. This includes synchronizing alarms, contactless enforcement, and digitizing visitor challans.
