The Delhi Government Will Renovate Unoccupied EWS Apartments.

Three months after a block of EWS flats in Bawana fell due to deterioration, the Delhi government has chosen to restore them. To begin, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), which is in charge of identifying eligible slum residents via surveys and initiating the allocation procedure, would rehabilitate around 2,000 similar homes in Dwarka Sector 16.

Officials stated that all flats built under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) by various government agencies will be repaired in stages.

“There is a large backlog of EWS units that are empty and in need of upkeep. We have chosen to begin the major repairs since such residences must be deemed habitable. In the first phase, 2,000 Dwarka homes are being occupied “a top Delhi government official stated

Predicated on several polls taken in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Delhi government intends approximately 55,000 EWS flats with one room, kitchen, and restroom in Narela, Bawana, Savda Ghewra, Bapraula, Rohini, Dwarka, and Jahangirpuri with expansive monetary assistance from the Centre under JNNURM and RAY. The plan was to rehabilitate nearly 4 lakh people from 650 slums.

Once restored, the Delhi government is expected to pass over around 16,000 similar flats to the Centre for distribution to the migrant community via the Subsidized Housing Rental Complex plan, while almost 18,000 will be distributed through the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana.

“In this respect, we will shortly execute an MoU with the Centre. After the renovations are completed, the units will be turned over to the Centre “announced a government official.
