Ballia Link Expressway – Important Information, Route Map, and Recent News!

The Ballia Link Expressway, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), would connect the Ballia district on the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border with the operating Purvanchal Expressway. The road is expected to be 35 kilometres long and would be built at a cost of around Rs 40 crore per kilometre, with a maximum investment of Rs 1,600 crore.

The Ballia Link Expressway will be a greenfield highway that will contribute significantly to Uttar Pradesh’s road infrastructure, delivering a much-needed improvement to the state’s transportation network. It would improve commercial and socioeconomic development by connecting the National Capital Region (NCR) to the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border districts. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the greenfield motorway was authorised by the UP Government’s Cabinet in December 2019.

Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, recently inaugurated highway projects worth Rs 6,500 crores in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. The ceremony took place on Monday, February 27, 2023. There were seven projects in all that were unveiled. The construction of the Ballia Link highway would significantly increase communication between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The Ballia Link Expressway would make it feasible to travel from Lucknow to Patna in under four hours through the Purvanchal Expressway. Furthermore, the trip time to Delhi will be considerably reduced. With the completion of the Ballia link highway, it is now possible to travel to Patna in one and a half hours, Chhapra in one hour, and Buxar in half an hour. Also, with the development of the greenfield highway, agricultural produce transportation and sale will have a larger market. Consequently, enhancing the economic activities of the region.

This greenfield project was originally launched in May 2015 as the Lucknow-Azamgarh-Balia Expressway, but it was later renamed. The proposed Ballia Link Expressway will connect Ghazipur and Ballia, ending just shy of the Bihar border. The highway will be around 35 kilometres long and will connect immediately with the Purvanchal Expressway before terminating at NH-31, approximately 10 kilometres from Ballia city.

Badhwalia, Shahapur, Lakda, Avgilwa, Hardarpur, Bankapur, Tikri, Sareh-Ijra, Basaratpur, Sultanpur, Rasda, Kotwari, Kuruchanda Singhpur, Pura Ekouni, Ekouni, and Pah Teekha are among the 16 villages that the highway is expected to pass through.
