JAIPUR: Approximately five lakh plot owners living in unapproved colonies are expected to benefit after the RJ state government’s nod to extend the cut-off date for regularization.
The extension of the date will happen after an amendment to the provision of 90(A) of the Rajasthan land revenue act. As per the official notification, the government plans to extend the last date for applications seeking regularization of houses constructed on agricultural land in urban areas to December 31, 2018. Earlier lease deeds were not issued to plot owners living in colonies, developed after June 17, 1999.
An official at the urban development and housing (UDH) department said, “The amendment bill will be soon tabled in the state assembly. With this, in the state capital alone, three lakh people living in approximately 1500 colonies will get the benefit.”
Once the proposal is approved, the state government will also regularize colonies not developed as per the township policy norms. An official said, “The layout plan for colonies which are developed as per 70:30 ratio can be approved by the civic bodies.” Experts said if such colonies were regularized, they would turn out like slums as there would be no facilities and open areas.
Karan Singh, who lives in one such colony in Prithvi Raj Nagar, said, “The government may issue the lease deeds, but residents will remain deprived of facilities due to unequal development as land is not left to develop the facility areas. Though they will procure the lease deeds, hope for parks and other facility areas will remain unfulfilled.” The nod to regularize these schemes during the ‘prashasan shero ke sang’ has been made to benefit the residents starving of basic amenities such as roads, water, and electricity for a long time. However, official sources claimed that the remaining land will not be sufficient to develop parks, community centers, and hospitals, among others.
