NREGA stands for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, also known as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). It is a social welfare scheme implemented by the Government of India. The Act was passed in 2005 and guarantees the right to work and provides employment opportunities to rural households in India.
